Advanced analytical techniques for intensive care big data

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is characterised by state-of-the-art multimodality monitoring. Huge amounts of data are available to the clinician but the data is so complex that it cannot be fully appreciated and much information is discarded in practice. There have been great advances in methods for the analysis of big data in other arenas. This work proposes to apply contemporary analytical techniques with a view to ultimately building computer systems that can perform online characterisation of the patient’ s state with a view to improving clinical care.

The project is collaboration between Dr Ari Ercole (consultant in intensive care medicine), Dr Stephen Eglen (applied mathematics) and Tom Edinburgh (applied mathematics).
